WHOM TO VOTE

This is a very important and most critical question that arises as soon as one decides that he/she will vote.

The answer is not simple and can not be straight forward and that easy. On an average there are 25 candidates are contesting from every constituency. Choosing the right candidate is definitely a critical decision.

However VAI is obligated to provide a good direction for our members and every responsible citizen of the country to use the voting right, rightly. !!

VAI neither supports nor opposes any political party. At the same time, we do not favor corrupt candidates no matter which party they belong to. The primary objective of VAI is to vote and to Vote Against Corruption.

In deciding whom to vote, VAI emphasizes the method of "process of elimination". Process of elimination is a method to identify an entity of interest among several ones by excluding all other entities. Once we eliminate the bad choices, it would be easy to choose one from the rest of the list.

We should consider the following points when eliminating a candidate:

  1. Any candidate who was sentenced by a court for any criminal proceedings in the past.
  2. Any Candidate Who is Distributing Money to buy Vote. This is the worst practice that we all should work together to stop this.
  3. Any Candidate / Party Distributing Liquour for Vote.
  4. Any Candidate / Party announcing excessive Freebie Scheme with the only aim to target Vote Bank.
  5. To whom any criminal case is pending and if you personally believe he/she is at fault. (Note: You may ignore this point if you believe the ongoing proceedings are filed with a political motivation and vindictive reasons)
  6. If the candidate is promoting Caste/Religion based motivations.
  7. A candidate who belongs to a party that is promoting Caste/Religion based politics.
  8. A candidate who is under heavy influence of Alcohol

Oh well, if we consider all the above points for elimination no one will be left to choose? May be you are right, because that is the bottom line reality of today’s situation. Most of the party designated candidates will probably be get disqualified in the first round, but am sure there will be few candidates be left in the party designated category and ample of other candidates be there from the independents list.

It is a common concept that voting independents will not help us forming the Government and if the independents win, they may be bought by the mighty political parties using the practices like "horse trading" etc. It is possible to some extent but again its just only a speculation and nobody can guarantee or decide the future.

So, after the elimination round, let us focus on the selection practices.

We should consider the following points when selecting a candidate:

  1. The candidate should be a social welfare oriented.
  2. It is better if he/she is qualified at least as a graduate / post graduate.
  3. Any proven track record of social service is definitely a plus.
  4. He/She should be a local resident and should continue to reside locally.
  5. He/She should understand the local problems and requirement of the residents.

We are sure that, at least we can find one candidate from the list of the available candidates and we can vote for the candidate. If not matching all the points who ever we consider most qualified can easily be the choice.

If you are still not convinced, we now have a great opportunity of NOTA, a choice to register vote and to reject every candidate whom we consider as not qualified.

Technically NOTA votes will not influence the defeat of other candidates as per section 49-O of the present law. The votes for NOTA will be considered null and void, but registered.

VAI does not encourage everyone to vote for NOTA, but we encourage you to at least vote for NOTA if you consider the entire list of candidates is not your choice.

Not voting is not a solution to political problems.

Let's vote & Let's Vote right.
Let's vote Against Corruption!!
