Current Voting Percentage

The Voting percentage is being calculated on the basis of actual votes polled that is divided among the political parties. Technically this may sound true, but technically this is not a good method of calculation. The Election Commission declaration of total votes polled is calculated on the basis of enrolled electors (registered in the voters list) and not on the total population of India who are 18+ years old.

  1. This means the percentage declared by ECI will not have a direct proportion to the population of the country.
  2. The current polling ratio is in the range of 70% to 75% which means 25% to 30% normally do not vote at all.
  3. The ratio of enrolled electors is also in the range of 70% to 75% only which also means 25% to 30% not enrolled at all.
  4. There is a considerable percentage of NRI's around the world who will account for atleast 3%.
  5. That said, at least 53% of population never vote considering the lower boundary of not enrolled citizens (25%) and not voting electors (25%).
  6. Thus total percentage of citizens never vote are 25% + 25% + 3% = 53%.
  7. It is worth to note that out of votes polled we do not have solid proof or authentic calculation of fake votes, yet we all know that it is at least 5%. If we consider that then the total proportion of people who are voting only in the range of 40% to 47%.
  8. Which means, if the not voting people properly vote, then the new votes alone will be more than the combined votes of all the parties together. (Major Parties, Regional Parties and Independents)
  9. If we can achieve 95% of voting, then we can make sure that no ineligible candidate can the election.
  10. It is important to remember that, the candidates can only contest. The winning is in the hands of voters. They can not win by themselves. Only people can make them win either by voting and by not voting.
